Vidalia,
Pastor Raymond W. Burrell, age 74, of Vidalia, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 25, 2018, in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, after an extended illness. He was a native of Sayre, Alabama, and graduated from Corner High School in Sayre. In 1974, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology from Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga. He served the Lord as a minister for forty-eight years, and pastored Bible Baptist Church in Vidalia for the past thirty years. He served on the Board of Directors for Rock of Ages Prison Ministry, headquartered in Cleveland, Tennessee, and was actively involved in local nursing ministries. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and especially spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Courtney Wilkes; and his parents, John Erskine Burrell and Nora Leola James Burrell.
Pastor Burrell is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Naomi Burrell of Vidalia; three children, Toni Burrell Wilkes and husband Cordy of Lyons, Wes Burrell of Brentwood, Tennessee, and Tina Chambers of Vidalia; five grandchildren, Callie Wilkes, Cole Wilkes, both of Lyons, Devin Burrell of Vidalia, Darrin Chambers of Uvalda, and Tabby Chambers of Vidalia; one sister, Carolyn Davis of Centreville, Alabama; two brothers, Milton Burrell and wife June of Childersburg, Alabama, and Howard Burrell of Graysville, Alabama; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 29th at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Dr. Robert Keaton and Reverend Bill Vansant officiating. Burial will follow in the Wilkes Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 5:00 until 8:00.
