Mrs. Nell Maloy Thompson, age 72, of Vidalia, died Tuesday, May 11, 2021, peacefully at her home after a sudden illness. She was born in Moultrie and grew up in Alma. She was a graduate of Bacon County High School, and Georgia Southern University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. She taught Kindergarten for more than twenty years at Robert Toombs Christian Academy in Lyons. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, and planned and organized several mission trips for the church. She enjoyed plants, flowers, and teaching children; but her greatest new joy and love in her life, was teaching, babysitting, and spending time with her grandson James. She is preceded in death by her parents, Daniel Harrington Maloy, Sr. and Bonnelle Suber Maloy.
Survivors include her husband of fifty-two years, Ray Thompson of Vidalia; two daughters, Dr. Donna Thompson Ray and husband Jimmy of McRae, and Amy Thompson of Atlanta; one grandson, James O. Ray, IV of McRae; two brothers, Daniel Harrington Maloy, Jr. and wife Becky of Dallas, Georgia, and Neal Maloy and wife Robin of Canton; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside funeral service will be held Friday, May 14th, at 11:00 a.m. at North Thompson Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Randy McDuffie officiating.
The family will receive friends at the cemetery immediately following the service.
