Nelda (Beckum) Garrett

Mrs. Nelda Beckum Garrett, age 81, of Lyons, died Sunday, July 7, 2024, at Community Hospice House in Vidalia after a sudden illness.  She was born in Tennille, Georgia, moved to Toombs County as a child, and was a 1960 graduate of Vidalia High School.  Nelda was a legal secretary for fifty years working for T. Ross Sharpe, Malone Sharpe, Wendell Calhoun, Tommy Smith, and several other law firms.  She was a member of First Baptist Church of Lyons and the Senior Ladies Sunday school class.  She was also a member of the Lyons Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority.  She enjoyed flowers, reading and cooking. She is preceded in death by her parents, Louie Beckum and Pearl Logan Beckum; and two brothers, Wayne Beckum and wife Jeannine and Jerry Beckum and wife Margie.

Her family includes her husband of sixty-three years, Mack Garrett of Lyons; three children, Cathy Garrett Doner and husband Scott of Bentonville, Arkansas, Chris Garrett and wife Marcie of Vidalia, and Cindy Garrett Ricks and husband Brantley of Lyons; three grandchildren, Anna Doner and Matt Davis of Boston, Massachusetts, Wesley Ricks and Erin Ricks, both of Lyons; siblings, Bobby Beckum and wife Ann of Santa Claus, and Vicki Beckum Moseley and husband Kenny of Soperton; sister-in-law, Shirley Garrett of Lyons; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friend, Tara Gerrits.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.

The funeral service will be Thursday, July 11th at 12:00 noon in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Phillips officiating.  Burial will follow at Lyons City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Toombs County FFA Scholarship Fund at Toombs County High School, 500 Bulldog Rd, Lyons, GA 30436, Attn:  Joey Montford.
