Mina Alice DeLaVergne found rest in the arms of her Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, April 12, 2022. Born in Tampa, Florida, Mina was a 1957 graduate of H.B. Plant High School and a 1961 graduate of Weslyan College in Macon, Georgia. She was married in 1959 to Dr. Robert H. DeJarnette, Jr. and spent most of her married life in Vidalia, Georgia. In 1978, she moved back to Tampa to be near family and friends. She was an active member of Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church in Tampa where she participated in Sunday School and many Bible studies and was ordained as a Ruling Elder. After retirement, she returned to Vidalia in 2013 to be near her children and grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Louis Gilman and Helen Thompson DeLaVergne; her brother, L.G."Ted" DeLaVergne, Jr. and her nephew, Daniel DeLaVergne.
She is survived by her children, Helen D. Payne (John) and Robert H. DeJarnette, III (Roseann); grandchildren, Will Payne (Jennifer), Sarah P. Maddox (Josh), Hank DeJarnette and Martin DeJarnette; great-grandsons, Wyatt, Elliot and Oliver Payne; sister-in-law, Robin DeLaVergne; nephew, John DeLaVergne (Valerie); and many beloved cousins.
The family expresses deep appreciation to caregivers Priscilla Costen, Bettye George, Gwen Hendrix, Lula Hilbert and Maggie McLeod.
The funeral service will be Thursday, April 14th at 11:00 a.m. at the Vidalia First United Methodist Church, Activity Center with Pastor Jim Smith officiating. A graveside service will follow on Monday, April 18th at 11:00 a.m. at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park in Tampa, Florida.
The family will receive friends at the Vidalia First United Methodist Church, Activity Center from 10:00 until just prior to the service.
