Mrs. Mildred McDonald, age 92, of the Center Community, died Tuesday, January 28, 2020, in The Oaks Bethany in Vidalia, after an extended illness. She was a native of Atlanta and worked with Federated Mutual for several years before moving to Toombs County in 1962. She worked with TG&Y for ten years and was a member of the Center United Methodist Church. She was a huge Atlanta Braves fan and always kept the stats for each game she watched. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin “Doc” McDonald; a daughter-in-law, Shirley McDonald; parents, Clyde Shoemake and Edith Ireland Shoemake; a sister, Sara Matthews; and a brother, Sidney Shoemake.
Mrs. McDonald is survived by one daughter, Kathy McDonald James of Center; one son, David McDonald of McDonough; four grandchildren, Jessica James Purvis and Drew James of Center, and Brad McDonald and Derek McDonald of Lyons; and one great-granddaughter, Kelsey McDonald.
The funeral service will be held Friday, January 31st, at 3:00 p.m. in the Center United Methodist Church with Reverend Melvin Kramer officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the church on Friday afternoon from 2:00 until just prior to the service.
