Mildred Powell Curl, age 87, of Mt. Vernon, died Friday, November 21, 2025, under the care of Affinis Hospice at Oxley Park Health & Rehab in Lyons following an extended illness. She was a native of Montgomery County and lived in Mt. Vernon most of her life. She worked at Ailey Manufacturing for many years. Mrs. Curl attended Lotts Creek Church of God and was a Sunday school teacher, and currently was a member of Harvest Chapel Church in the Petross Community. Mrs. Curl lived a simple life, but was far richer than people with riches, as she loved the Lord and was a Christian.
She loved attending church, studying the Bible, singing and listening to gospel music. She genuinely loved everyone, finding good in all people, and she believed in telling the truth. She enjoyed flower gardening, growing Irises, raising chickens, vegetable gardening, canning, shelling peas, making pear jelly, and putting vegetables from her garden in her freezer.
Up until a few years ago, she cooked every Thursday evening for her children and grandchildren. She looked forward to the family Christmas Eve celebration as the family enjoyed music and singing and the priceless time spent together.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Royce Curl; daughter, Linda Gail Royals Badley; parents, Leroy Powell and Lucille Mercer Powell; two sisters, Jo Ann Powell Lamb and Bennie Lou Powell; and brother, Bobby Lee Powell.
Mrs. Curl is survived by one daughter, Sandra Graham Allen and husband Butch as he always referred to her as “Ma in law”; one son, Billy Curl and wife Kathy of the Long Pond Community; five grandchildren, Sheri Allen Brazzell and husband Brandon of Vidalia, Hannah Royals of Hawaii, Kesley Curl Calloway and husband Josh of Tattnall County, Mark Brown and wife Samantha of Vidalia, and Lori Brown of Mt. Vernon; seven great-grandchildren, Cullen Calloway, Zaylei Brown, Hayden Brown, Cainan Calloway, Adaline Brown, Kade Swancey, and Sara Brown; several nieces and nephews, including Henry Lamb, Jodi Lamb, Roy Lamb, and Melinda Martin.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Monday afternoon, November 24, 2025, at 3:00 at Waters Cemetery near Normantown, with Pastor Kevin Collins officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made to Harvest Chapel Church, 868 Anderson Circle, Lyons, GA 30436.
Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home of Vidalia is in charge of arrangements.
