Mr. William Michael “Mike” Bowen, age 72, of the Mt. Moriah Community, died Monday, October 11, 2021, at Advent Health in Orlando, Florida after a sudden illness. He was a lifelong resident of Mt. Moriah, a 1967 graduate of Lyons High School and he attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. He was a lifelong farmer, co-owner of Bowen Seed Farms and Watts Creek Farms, and after retirement, he worked with his sons at The Parts Farm. Mike served in the Army National Guard, was a lifetime member of Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church and served as Treasurer on the Mt. Moriah Cemetery Committee. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed fishing, the outdoors and hiking with his children. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ross Patrick Bowen and Carolyn Elizabeth Palmer Bowen; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Shuman Bowen.
His family includes his former wife, Trudy S. Bowen of Lyons; four children, Rob Bowen of Lyons, Jada Bowen of Ponte Vedra, Florida, Patrick Bowen of Lyons, and Jana Bowen of Statesboro; one brother, Danny Bowen of Vidalia; two sisters, Beverly Bowen Thompson and husband Chuck, and Michelle Bowen Jones and husband Randy, all of Lyons; one granddaughter, Malin Eriksen; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Saturday afternoon, October 16th, at 2:00 at Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church with Reverend Bobby Gale and Pastor Michael Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 until just prior to the service.
