Mickey D. Snellgrove Obituary

Mickey Dort Snellgrove, age 77, of Vidalia, Georgia, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025, at Meadows Park after an extended illness.  Mickey was born on July 30, 1947, in New Brockton, Alabama. He attended Carroll High School in Ozark, Alabama, and proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1965 to 1971 as a radioman.  He married the love of his life, Janice Chalker, on March 25, 1966. Together they shared nearly 53 years of marriage until her passing.

Mickey earned his Associate degree from Wallace Community College in Dothan, Alabama. Over his long and varied career, he worked many jobs but spent the majority of his professional life helping build nuclear plants across Alabama, Tennessee, and Georgia.  In his later years, Mickey found joy in the simple things — fishing with his brother-in-law, Joe Wayne Price, sipping coffee on the back porch, and above all, spending time with his beloved wife, Janice. He was a member of Vidalia Baptist Temple and later joined Calvary Grace Baptist Church in Ailey, where his faith remained an important part of his life.

Mickey is survived by his children: Michelle Hayes and husband Lucky of Lyons, and Melody Hayes and husband Brad of Dublin; grandchildren, Kasey Rowland and husband Tyler Dublin, Katie McLeod and husband Steve of Lyons, Kara Lucke and husband George of Lyons, Sydney Hayes and fiancé Landon Ott, and Sophie Hayes, all of Dublin; great-grandchildren: Haisleigh, Harper, Tripp McLeod, Duane Rowland, Presley, and Payton Lucke; his sister, Sharon Price; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Janice Snellgrove; his parents, Dort Snellgrove, Dolores Sollie, and Mike Sollie III.

Mickey will be remembered for his jokes, comical poems, and all the funny things he did to make those around him laugh.  His humor and lighthearted spirit will live on in the memories of everyone who loved him.

The funeral service will be Wednesday afternoon, June 4th, 2025, at 3:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Patrick officiating.  Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at funeral home on Wednesday afternoon from 1:30 until just prior to the service.

Pallbearers are Nick Hayes, David Brown, Steve McLeod, Tyler Rowland, George Lucke, and Landon Lott.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Calvary’s Grace Church, PO Box 154, Mt. Vernon, GA 30445.

Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home of Vidalia is in charge of arrangements.
