Mr. Michael K. Oates, age 84, of Alston, died Saturday, March 8, 2025, at his home after an extended illness. He was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, grew up in Pampa, Texas, and was a 1959 graduate of Pampa High School. He attended the University of Texas, and lived in Perryton, Texas for a few years. Michael moved to Dallas, where he lived most of his life, before moving to Montgomery County in 1995. He was National Service Manager for American Permanent Wear for more than twenty-five years. After his retirement, he worked at Rocky Creek Golf Club in Vidalia until their closing. He attended Lyons Community Church. Michael enjoyed playing golf, woodworking, anything mechanical, and spending time with his family and friends. He is preceded in death by two children, Mark Oates and Mindy Oates; parents, Steven Theodore Oates and Florence Hope Baer Oates; and three brothers, Stephen Oates, Stephen B, Oates and Anthony Oates.
His family includes his wife of fifty-one years, Sam Oates of Alston; one son, Danny Fulton and wife Kara; two grandsons, Brian Fulton and fiancé Sara and Michael Fulton all of Aurora Colorado; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held later.
