Melvin Caraway Obituary

Mr. Melvin Caraway, age 59, of McRae-Helena, died Tuesday, April 21, 2020, in Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin after an extended illness.  He was a native of the Cedar Crossing Community and was a 1979 graduate of Toombs Central School.  He lived in Toombs County all of his life until moving to Telfair County in 2011.  He was a welder and painter and was owner of the former Toombs Welding in Lyons.  He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of Milliken Creek Masonic Lodge #302 in Cedar Crossing.  He was of the Church of God faith and was a former member of Rock Springs Holiness-Baptist Church.  He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mindy Caraway; parents, Clyde Perlee Caraway and Gladys Louise Stephens Caraway; one brother, James Caraway; two sisters, Irene Caraway McGee and an infant sister, Joyce Caraway.

Mr. Caraway is survived by his wife of thirty-four years, Kathy Prickett Caraway; one son, Brian Gillis and wife Hillary, all of Helena-McRae; two brothers, Gary Wade Caraway and wife Lu of Cedar Crossing, and Larry Gene Caraway and wife Terri of Millen; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside funeral service will be held Saturday, April 25th, at 10:00 a.m. in the South Thompson Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Jimmy Cothren officiating. 

The family has requested that everyone be comfortable and wear casual clothing.
