Melissa Newsome Garcia, age 62, of Vidalia, died Monday, September 29, 2025, at her home following an extended illness. She was a native of Toombs County, lived in Vidalia most of her life, and attended Lyons Senior High School. She worked at Winn Dixie, Super 10, Cedarwood GNET Services, Toombs County High School, and Henry’s Restaurant. She was a member of Vidalia Baptist Temple, and she enjoyed thrifting, Christmas, and spending time with her family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert B. Newsome and Nellie O’Neal Newsome; and two sisters, Martha Ann Newsome Vickery and Sherry Marie Newsome Clark.
She is survived by two daughters, Alicia Newsome Brinson and husband Charlie, and Brittany Garcia; three grandchildren, Ivan Brinson, Conner Brinson, and Vanessa Brinson, all of Vidalia; one sister, Linda Newsome Burkett of Hazlehurst; two brothers, Randy Newsome and wife Debra of Cobbtown, and Bobby Newsome and wife Charlene of Glenwood; several nieces and nephews, and her Jack Russell, Sadie.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening, October 2nd from 6:00 until 8:00.
