“ In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding, he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.” Ephesians 1:7–10 (NIV)
Melanie Erin Clift, born March 12, 1984, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 12, 2025, at Augusta University Hospital due to a hemorrhagic stroke.
Melanie was, first and foremost, a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. Her faith was the foundation of her life and the motivation behind every decision she made. She lived with purpose and intention, seeking to glorify God in all she did.
Raised in Vidalia, Georgia, Melanie was the youngest in her family — the baby who was the heart and soul of every family gathering. She was the best sister, a loving daughter, the cook everyone counted on, the resident mechanic, Miss fix it when it came to plumbing or small home repairs, the go-to for random facts and helpful knowledge and proudly held the title of “the fun aunt” to her eight beloved nieces and nephews. Her vibrant energy and adventurous spirit were defining parts of who she was. She was always up for a road trip, a new experience, or a spontaneous journey in her RV, accompanied by her loyal dog Murphy, her companion of 15 years.
For the past eight years, Melanie served faithfully as the Young Adult Leader at New Covenant Church in Statesboro, GA. She poured her heart into this ministry, mentoring and discipling countless young adults. Her greatest desire was for them to know Jesus, to follow Him wholeheartedly, and to grow in boldness and truth.
Melanie was a friend to everyone. She was everyone’s “person.” She saw the image of God in each person she encountered and treated everyone with love, respect, and compassion. Her friends were not just friends — they were family. Through her deep and authentic relationships, Melanie created a wide network of love and support across the country.
She had recently resigned from her position at New Covenant Church to begin a new chapter with Operation Mobilization in Clarkston, GA, where she planned to share the gospel with Jewish and Muslim communities. Though she had not yet made the move, she was filled with purpose and excitement for the work ahead.
Melanie is survived by her father, Brian Clift (Kenya Clift); her sisters, Allison Osborne (Justin Osborne) and Ashley Sasser (Sean Sasser); and her treasured nieces and nephews: Grayson Osborne, Christian Osborne, Noah Osborne, Knox Osborne, Blayke Sasser, Lucas Sasser, Ryan Sasser, and Grant Sasser. She is preceded in death by her mother, Melanie Kim Clift.
Melanie’s life was a radiant reflection of Christ’s love. She lived with joy, humility, conviction, and generosity. Her absence leaves a profound emptiness in the hearts of her family, friends, church, and all who were blessed to know her — but her legacy of faith and love lives on in every life she touched.
For anyone reading this obituary who is analytically struggling with believing that Jesus is the Son of God and the Savior of the world, Melanie would want to encourage you to investigate the claims of Jesus — to look closely at the immense evidence of the resurrection and the reliability of Scripture. For those who do believe, but have not yet chosen to follow Him, she would remind you:
“Now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.” (2 Corinthians 6:2)
There will be a celebration of life that will be announced in October to be held at Vidalia Cornerstone Church, 209 Church Street, Vidalia, GA.
