Mary (Thomas) Sears

Mrs. Mary Thomas Sears, age 90, of Vidalia, died Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at her home after an extended illness.  She was a native of Kite, Georgia and a 1949 graduate of Swainsboro High School.  She was a licensed practical nurse and worked at Claxton Hospital.  She later moved to Atlanta, worked with GMAC as an accountant, and retired after thirty-five years.  After retirement, she and her husband traveled ten years before moving to Vidalia in 1999.  She was a member of Calvary’s Grace Baptist Church in Ailey, and she enjoyed traveling, clogging, tap dancing, reading and playing the piano.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Don Sears; parents, Ivey T. Thomas and Esther Gertrude Garrett Thomas; daughter-in-law, Beverly McCord Sears; and five siblings, J.C. Thomas, Romie Thomas, Martha Durden, Betty Bennett, and an infant sister, Sandra Thomas.

Her family includes two sons, Larry Sears of Vidalia and Todd Sears of Habersham County; three sisters, Glenda Thomas Henry of Swainsboro, Shirley Thomas Stowe of Canoochee, and Joann Thomas Bedgood of Soperton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside funeral service will be Friday afternoon, January 20th, at 3:00 at Pine Crest Cemetery with Pastor Brian Patrick officiating.
