Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Clifton McGowan, age 88, of the Normantown Community, died Monday, December 29, 2025, at her daughter's home after a sudden illness. She was born in the Toombs Central Community and lived in Toombs County all of her life. She worked at Lyons Manufacturing for nine years and retired after twenty years as a housekeeper from Meadows Regional Medical Center. She was a faithful member of Victory Fellowship – Lyons Church of God of Prophecy. She enjoyed reading, coloring, crossword puzzles, and gospel music.
Mrs. McGowan is preceded in death by her husband, John Cleo McGowan; son, Johnny C. McGowan; parents, Pete Clifton and Lela James Clifton; and mother, Annie Blanch Clifton Joiner; son-in-law, Roger Patrick; and two siblings.
She is survived by one daughter, Lula Mae Patrick of Normantown; two grandsons, Jason Patrick of Vidalia and Kevin Patrick and wife Kassie of Muncie, Indiana; and seven great-grandchildren, Clay Patrick, J.T. Patrick, Austin Patrick, Judith Patrick, Owen Patrick, and Mila Patrick; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday morning, January 8, 2026, at 11:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Poppell officiating. Interment will follow at Ruth’s Chapel Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 until just prior to the service.
Pallbearers are Buddy Patrick, Dan Patrick, Jason Patrick, Kevin Patrick, Steve Patrick, and Kevin Geiger.
