Marvin Dowd, Sr.

Mr. Marvin Dowd, Sr. age 62, of the Rock Springs Community, died Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, after an extended illness.  He was a lifelong resident of Toombs County and was a 1979 graduate of Toombs Central School.  He was an electronic repairman with Vincent Electric and truck driver with Beasley Timber Company in Hazlehurst.  He was a member of Lyons Holiness Church, and was a volunteer firefighter with Toombs County and Cedar Crossing Fire Departments.  He was a former member of Sons of Smoke.  Marvin enjoyed fishing, playing softball, hunting, riding motorcycles and horses.  He is preceded in death by a daughter, Maryjo Ann Dowd; his parents, Reverend Henry Lee Dowd and Esther Beasley Dowd; and two sisters, Bernice Dinah Dowd and Lisa Beasley Smith.

His family includes his wife of twenty years, Shirley Lawrence Dowd; four children, Henry Marvin Dowd, Jr. and wife Kelly of Rock Springs, Christopher Luke Dowd of Lyons, Candace Dowd Morris and husband Eddie of Vidalia, and Ronald Joseph Sikes and wife Heather of Vidalia; and two brothers, Drayton Dowd and wife Kathy of Uvalda, and Clayton Dowd and wife Wendy of Tifton; seven grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, November 18th, from 1:30 until just prior to the funeral service at 3:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Clayton Dowd and Pastor Donnie Hughes officiating.  Burial will follow at Cedar Crossing Cemetery with Pastor Henry Lamb officiating.

Pallbearers are Lamar Dowd, Dwayne Beasley, David Beasley, Johnny Beasley, Larry Beasley, and Fate Carroll.
