Marjorie Mimbs Obituary

Mrs. Marjorie Faye Spivey Mimbs, age 81, of Lyons, died Thursday, April 27, 2023, at her residence after an extended illness.  She was a native of Johnson County, a graduate of Adrian High School and had lived in Lyons since 2007.  Marjorie’s husband, the late Edward Mimbs, was called into the Ministry of the Gospel in 1959, after only two months of marriage.  Although she was shy, Marjorie was always proud to be a pastor’s wife.  She was active in the Women’s Missionary Union during their ministry and was an associational officer in the 1980s.  She was a talented seamstress.  She could design and make any type of clothing.  She made suits for her husband, clothing for her children, and even made formal gowns worn in “Miss Georgia” pageants.  She was a mother and was cherished by her family, especially her three children.  Above all else, Marjorie was a child of God.  She was a member of Vidalia Baptist Temple and she enjoyed gardening, designing floral arrangements, and many other crafts.  She also loved baking her “special” pound cakes to share with family and friends.  She is preceded in death by her husband of fifty-five years, Reverend Emory Edward Mimbs; parents, Ivey Lee Spivey and Ellena Morgan Spivey; two sisters, Margaret Maye Spivey, her twin, and Mary Spivey; a grandson, Jeffery Lee Mimbs; two sisters-in-law, Jeanette Tapley and Jean Payton; and one special nephew, Danny Elliott.

Her family includes two sons, Randall Lee Mimbs and wife Vickie of Lyons and Roderick Edward Mimbs and wife Phoebe of Palmdale, California; one daughter, Selena Marie Lockley and husband Larry of Lyons; one sister, Marie Martin of Dublin; four grandchildren, Casey Mantuano and husband Al, Justin Mimbs and wife Mindi, Thomas Horne and wife Rachel, Amanda Montford and husband Kyle; three “bonus” grandchildren, Ashley Pope, Misty Perryman and Layten Phillips; four great-grandchildren, Al Mantuano IV, Alaina Mantuano, Avery Montford and Jett Montford; and nieces and nephews, Mark, Mike, Penny, Pam and Marti.

The graveside funeral service will be Sunday, April 30th at 3:30 p.m. at Carter’s Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery, 2135 Hwy 80, East Dublin, GA 30127 with Reverend Brian Durden officiating.

The family will receive friends at the cemetery from 2:30 p.m. until just prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice Foundation, PO Box 2277, Vidalia, GA 30475.
