Mrs. Margaret Gay Donald, age 70, of Lyons, died Thursday, March 25, 2021, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah after a brief illness. She was born in Eastman, and at the age of fifteen, began a career in the florist profession in which she remained for thirty-five years. She was an accomplished floral designer in Eastman, then marrying her husband and operating her own shop in Lyons, Caroline’s Florist. Later she worked at flower shops in Baxley, Vidalia, and The Little Flower Shop in Lyons. Margaret won several local and state designing competitions over her career as a floral designer. She was a member of the Lyons Free Will Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and served as church treasurer and hostess. She is preceded in death by a son, Bruce Allen Donald; parents, Newbern Bryan Gay and Minnie Lee Peacock Gay; and five siblings.
Survivors include her husband of forty-nine years, Walter Donald of Lyons; one son, Jim Donald and wife Cheryl; one granddaughter, Emma Nichole Donald, all of Van Alstyne, Texas; one sister, Ethel Lee Brown and husband Jimmy of Eastman; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday afternoon, March 29th, from 1:30 until 3:00 with a private funeral service to follow in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Lyons City Cemetery.
