Mrs. Marclyn L. Atchinson, age 72, of Vidalia, died Friday, July 4, 2025, at Memorial Satilla Health Hospital in Waycross after a sudden illness. She was born in Memphis, Tennessee, as a child, moved to San Diego, California where she grew up, and graduated there in 1969 from Kearney High School. She moved to Pensacola, Florida in 1969, and in 1974, joined the U.S. Navy where she served for three years. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance from Florida State University. She moved to Palm Beach, Florida, and she worked ten years with Palm Beach County and Palm Beach County Board of Education as a cash analyst. She attended First Baptist Church in West Palm Beach and First Baptist Church in San Diego. Marclyn was always an outdoor enthusiast and relished God’s creations. She enjoyed flower gardening, fishing, skiing, and hiking in the woods, including state and national parks. She also loved music and dancing. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles Edward Slater, Sr. and Ruby Gertrude Wilson Slater; and a brother, Charles Edward Slater, Jr.
Her family includes her husband of thirty-nine years, David W. Atchinson; one daughter, Samantha Ann Atchinson, both of Vidalia; one brother, James R. “Jim” Slater and wife Sharon of Kissimmee, Florida; one sister, Nancy Slater Nygaard and husband Ed of Prescott, Wisconsin, and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside funeral service will be Monday afternoon, July 14th, at 1:00 at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville, Georgia with Pastor Michael Plowman officiating.
