Mr. Lummie Spence, age 76, of Vidalia, died Tuesday, July 7, 2020, in Meadows Health in Vidalia after a sudden illness. He was born in Savannah on July 3, 1944, and soon he and his family moved to Vidalia where he lived most of his life. He was a graduate of Vidalia High School and served in the Army National Guard. He had had several jobs throughout his lifetime, but will always be remembered as “The Ice Cream Man” in the 1970’s and 80’s. More recently, he was a caregiver to several families in the Vidalia area. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Vidalia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Anis Helms Spence; three brothers, Jim Spence, Frank Spence and Milton Spence; and a sister, Mae Spence Mayes.
Mr. Spence is survived by two sisters, Dot Futch and husband Dwayne of Brunswick and Patricia Jones of Vidalia; one brother-in-law, Robert Mayes; one sister-in-law, Cindy Spence of Gladwin, Michigan, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family has elected not to have a service in light of the Covid-19 Pandemic.
