Lora Gale Barnes Oglesby, age 75, passed away Thursday, December 31, 2020, at the Oaks Bethany of Vidalia after an extended illness. She was a lifelong resident of Montgomery County, and was raised in Alston. Lora Gale is preceded in death by her parents; Troy Franklin and Cora Ellie Browning Barnes; and her stepmother, Betty Beckum Browning Barnes.
Lora Gale was a retired seamstress, having worked at Oxford Manufacturing and Uvalda Manufacturing for years. She was a substitute teacher for many years at Montgomery County schools; and was over the Daniel Baptist Association Youth summer camp kitchen for several years. She loved to watch Hee Haw and Duck Dynasty; loved gospel and old country music.
Survivors include her husband of fifty-five years, John Henry Oglesby; one daughter, Kim Oglesby; one son Kevin Oglesby and wife Kimberly all of Alston; granddaughters, Samantha Oglesby of Alston and Ellie Grace Oglesby and fiance’ Dillon Ward of Mt. Vernon; great-grandson, Bretley James Beasley of Alston; special daughter, Connie Clifton and husband Henry of Lyons; sisters, Sue Carter and husband Henry, Angie Lewis and husband Mike, and Robbie Waller and husband Doyle, all of Alston; brothers, Ronald Barnes and wife Wanda, Ken Barnes all of Alston, Donald Barnes and wife Jo of Knoxville/North Carolina; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends at Sharpe Cemetery from 10:00 until just prior to the service.
A Graveside service will be held Monday, January 4th, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at the Sharpe Cemetery near Alston with Reverend Owen Waters officiating.
