Lois Laverne Davis Gillis Obituary

Mrs. Lois Laverne Davis Bray Gillis, age 71, of Vidalia, died Monday, January 20, 2020 in the Community Hospice in Vidalia, after an extended illness.  She was a native of Brunswick, living there until moving to Vidalia in 1965 and was a 1967 graduate of Vidalia High School.  Early in her life, she was a switchboard operator for Southern Bell, later she worked as a secretary at Sally Meadows Elementary School and retired from the Vidalia Board of Education Food Services after twenty three years of combined service.  She was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church in Lyons and Ladies in Action of the church.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Davis and Lois Missouri Beasley Davis; five sisters, Villa Mae Gordon, Mary Lou Gordon, Alma Toler, Pauline Edwards and Morrine Caraway; and two brothers, Bobby Davis and Billy Davis.

Mrs. Gillis is survived by her husband, Gary E. Gillis of Vidalia; one daughter, Frances Bray Henry and Kevin Phillips of Vidalia; one son, James T. Bray, Jr. and wife Brandy of Vidalia; one step-daughter, Jennifer Marie Gillis Todd and husband Phillip of Reidsville; one brother, Jimmy Davis, Sr. of Jesup; two sisters, Viola Fuller of Enigma, and Margie Branham of Eulonia; one brother-in-law, Calvin Branham of Eulonia; two sisters-in-law, Karen Summerville and Sarah Caraway; four grandchildren, Tyler Bray, Landon Bray, both of Vidalia, Ashton Henry and Lauren Henry, both of Vidalia; two step-grandchildren, Dallen Jones and Austin Jones, both of Lyons; one great-grandson, Jordan Jackson of Vidalia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, January 23rd, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Glenn Russell officiating.  Burial will follow in the Beasley Cemetery in Treutlen County.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 9:00.
