Mr. Leandro “Bones” Castillo, age 67, of the South Thompson Community, died unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. He was a native of Nuevo Padilla, Mexico, in the early 1970s, moved to Texas, and later became a U.S. citizen. He moved to Chicago where he graduated high school, and later to Florida, then to Telfair County, Mt. Vernon for twenty years, and had made South Thompson his home for the past ten years. He worked with the Fleming Company in Tulsa, Oklahoma for twenty years, working all over the country building Wal-Mart Distribution Centers. He was working with the Sack Company in Statesboro in HVAC, where he had been for the past ten years. He enjoyed working on cars, gardening, fishing, yard work, and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Johnson Castillo; parents, Felipe Castillo and Aurelia Esquivel Castillo; and one brother, Miguel Castillo.
He is survived by three children, Jesse Castillo of South Thompson, Haley Phelps and husband Charlie, and Sonni Castillo Braddy and husband Dylan of Normantown; five grandchildren, Jaden Braddy, Jaslin Phelps, Mackenzie Phelps, Miles Braddy, and Milo Braddy; ten siblings, Maria Torres, Concepcion Castillo, Margarita Castillo, Lupe Castillo, Felipe Castillo, Juan Castillo, Martin Castillo, Montserrat Castillo, Jesus Castillo, and Humberto Castillo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening, October 24th from 6:00 until 8:00.
The funeral service will be held Saturday morning, October 25th at 11:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Efton Green officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
