Mrs. Marilyn “Laverne” Cannon, age 68, of Cobbtown, Georgia died September 26, 2021, after an extended illness. She was a native of Toombs County and had lived in Cobbtown the last seven years. She previously lived in Oak Island, North Carolina for several years where she enjoyed collecting and creating ceramic pigs. Laverne retired from H & R Block as a tax accountant and recently was employed as Cobbtown City Clerk. She was a member of the Cobbtown Methodist Church. Laverne is preceded in death by her husband, William Cannon; a son, Matthew Porter; her parents, Vernon and Lottie Lockley; and two sisters, Cynthia Martin and Debbie Manning.
Her family includes two sons, Jonathan Porter and wife Suki of Winter Garden, Florida and Chris Porter and wife Alissa of Cobbtown; two brothers, Larry Lockley and wife Selena of Lyons and Jimmy Lockley and wife Holly of Lebanon, Tennessee; six grandchildren, Mars, Raiden, Peyton, Sawyer, Korbin and Konner.
