Laura Kate Pye Jones, age 94, of Lyons, died Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Oxley Park Health & Rehab in Lyons following an extended illness. She was a native of Toombs County, living in the Marvin Yancey Community until moving to Lyons in 1983. She was a 1948 graduate of Lyons High School. She was a homemaker and earlier in her life, she was actively involved in all aspects of farming. She retired after more than twenty years as a chair side assistant with Dr. Wilbur New in Lyons. She was a former member of Providence Missionary Baptist Church and is a charter member of The Oaks Baptist Church in Lyons where she taught Sunday school at both churches, but was primarily involved with children in the nursery. She enjoyed vegetable gardening, yard work, and crocheting for countless family and friends, more especially for newborns. The thing she enjoyed most, however, was cooking for her family. Her former husband, Hayden Jones, Sr.; granddaughter, Julia Elizabeth Jones; parents, Claude Watson Pye, Sr. and Ethel Virginia Holliman Pye; and twelve siblings, Curtis, Talmadge, Jake, Claude, Gaston, William, Jim, Willard, and Jack Pye, Mary Pye Hudson, and Ruth Pye Sharpe, Merle Pye Wilkes, precede her in death.
Her family includes four children, Debbie Jones Wiggins and Ken, Robert Jones and wife Cindy, all of Marvin Yancey, Al Jones and wife Kathy of Lyons, and Tammi Jones Threlkeld and husband Craig of Marvin Yancey; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Wiggins Davis and husband Trey, Jason Wiggins and wife Misty, Jordan Jones, Cali Jones Mosley and husband Trey, all of Marvin Yancey, and Ally Jones and Brandon Webster of Daytona Beach, Florida; Samantha Threlkeld and Rachel Threlkeld, both Marvin Yancey; seven great-grandchildren, Jake Davis, Jackson Davis, Kensley Davis, Hayden Wiggins, Mason Garbutt, Hallie Anna Mosley, and Hayden Mosley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be Friday morning, February 21st, 2025, at 11:00 at The Oaks Baptist Church with Pastor Christian Burton officiating.
The family will receive friends at The Oaks Baptist Church from 10:00 until just prior to the service.
The family would like to thank and acknowledge Oxley Park, Affinis Hospice, and caregiver and friend, Billy Wooten for their loving care and support.
