Mr. James Larry Powell, Sr. age 78, of Uvalda, went to be with the Lord on November 9, 2025, after an extended illness. He was a lifelong resident of Montgomery County, living near Uvalda most of his life. He was a member of Smyrna Church in Uvalda and was blessed to be a part of Smyrna Church most of his life. He was a lifelong famer and retired from Trane in Vidalia after seventeen years. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He is preceded in death by his parents, M.D. Powell and Elouise Turner Powell; and an infant sister, Evelyn Powell.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Elizabeth Simpson Powell; two sons, James Powell, Jr. and Michael Powell and wife Sheila, all of Uvalda; six grandchildren, Autumn Espinosa and husband Shane, Summer Powell and Ray, Winter Fountain and husband Patrick, Hunter Powell, E.J. White, and Dakota White; three great-grandchildren, Phoenix Hall, Cadence Ursrey, and Allison Ursrey; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at 11:00 at Smyrna Church with Pastor Melvin Kramer, Reverend Ron Johnson, and Al Manning officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are Randy Mosley, Darrell Adams, Carl Simpson, Charlie Powell, Adam Carpenter, and Jack Foskey.
Honorary pallbearers are Jeff Knowles, Greg Foskey, and Randal Foskey.
The family will assemble at the residence of a granddaughter, Autumn Espinosa, 4448 South Old River Road, Uvalda.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donation in Mr. Powell’s memory, are suggested to the Smyrna Men’s Club or Smyrna Church Cemetery Fund, PO Box 447, Uvalda, GA 30473.
