He was a Uvalda native and graduated from Montgomery County High School. Lamont served in the Georgia National Guard and was a 1960 graduate of Tampa University with a bachelor's degree in education and a minor in Science. During his college years, he played basketball as a four-year starter and later went on to play semi pro for the Phillips 66 Oilers. He retired after thirty-four years of loyal service from the State Department of Public Health as an environmentalist, serving Montgomery, Wheeler and Jeff Davis Counties. He was a member of the Milligan Creek Masonic Lodge #302, "The Liar’s Table Breakfast Group" in Uvalda, and a lifelong member of Uvalda Community Church, where he taught Sunday school for 50 years. Lamont had a love for sports, refereeing basketball games for 20 years with the Georgia Basketball Association for both high schools and colleges, where he served as head of the Georgia Referee Association. In his spare time, he enjoyed farming, old cars and trucks, and helping his community in any way he could. He especially loved spending time with family and friends. He was a loving and caring father and grandfather. He is preceded in death by his wife of sixty-one years, Babs Fowler Craft; his parents, Eustus Jefferson Craft and Ethel Gordon Craft; and a sister, Shirley Craft Dopson.
His family includes his children, Eustus “Monty” Lamont Craft II and wife Sonja Craft of Uvalda and Karen Patricia Craft Wall and husband Richard Alan Wall of Bonaire, Georgia; five grandchildren, Barbara “Babs” Patricia Wall Orange, Jami Sha Wall, Richard Alan Wall II, Taylor Jean Craft Mason and husband Caylan Mason, and Eustus “Ty” Lamont Craft III; two great-grandchildren, Logan Jeanine Orange and Jimmy Neil Orange IV; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
