LaBlanche Mize Obituary

Mrs. LaBlanche Collins Mize, age 95, of Lyons, died Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at Memorial Health Meadows Hospital in Vidalia, following an extended illness.  She was a native of Toombs County, living in Lyons most of her life and worked at Lyons Manufacturing for many years.  She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Lyons, where she taught children’s Sunday school and Vacation Bible School for many years.  Mrs. Mize was a volunteer at Robert Toombs Christian Academy and former member of the Lyons Garden Club and Toombs EMA.  She enjoyed the outdoors, flower gardening, and word search.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Nevel Wood Mize; daughter, Gloria Mize; parents, Melvin Conley Collins and Pency Viola Kersey Collins; and one brother, Melvin “M.C.” Collins.

Her family includes one daughter, Brenda M. Ross and husband Michael of Barnesville; grandson, Randy Ross of Lyons; one granddaughter, Heather Sheppard; two great-grandchildren, Jasper Tillman and Conor Tillman, all of Memphis, Tennessee; one niece and several nephews.

The funeral service will be Saturday morning, August 17th, at 11:00 at First Baptist Church of Lyons with Elder Jerry Lightsey and Pastor Clint Hutcheson officiating.  Burial will follow at Collins Chapel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.  The service was delayed due to the rainfall in the cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 10:00 until just prior to the service.
