Ms. Kristy Leigh Thompson, age 55, of Center Community, died Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Community Hospice House in Vidalia after a sudden illness. She was born on January 21, 1969, to the late Leonard and Joan Thompson, was raised in the Center Community and was a 1987 graduate of Lyons Senior High School. She spent a short time in Brunswick, and while living there, she worked with Real Escapes Properties as a housekeeping coordinator. It was in Brunswick that she began her journey to sobriety. In 2018, she returned home and went to work at Precious Care Assisted Living, where she worked for over twenty years. She was able to get back to what she loved, being a caregiver to her patients. Kristy enjoyed soaking up the sun on any type of sand. She loved reading, people watching, and she enjoyed good gossip. She loved listening to music and was a devoted Parrott Head. She lived life to the fullest and brightened up any room with her contagious smile. Her hobbies included planting and cultivating a small garden. She had a green thumb, and she took pride in her flowers. Kristy is preceded in death by her father, Leonard Tank “Pa” Thompson, and mother, Joann Thompson.
Kristy is survived by her daughter, Jolea Mae Thompson; significant other, Robbie O’Neil; brother, Brian Tank Thompson (Michelle); nephew, Gavin Thompson, all of Vidalia; bonus son, Chris Rowe of Darrien; two furbabies, Cooper and Duke; and lifelong friends, Mike Janouski, Angie Johnson, Lori Coleman, Kim Johnson and Phyllis Hollingsworth.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening, July 19th from 6:00 until 8:00.
The funeral service will be Saturday morning, July 20 th at 11:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Durden and Mr. Fred Tippett officiating. Burial will follow at South Thompson Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Gavin Thompson, Bart Thompson, Teddy “Buster” Reed, Mike Janouski, Gary Johnson, Shannon Youmans and Austin Holcombe. Honorary pallbearers are the staff and residents of Precious Care Assisted Living.
