Karen Brantley Obituary

Mrs. Karen Williams Brantley, age 80, of Vidalia, died Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on June 11, 1945, in Augusta, to the late Roland Truett Williams and Joyce M. Williams and lived there until moving to Hollywood, Florida in 1957. She was a 1963 graduate of McArthur High School in Hollywood and attended Florida State University. She later moved to Vidalia where she lived most of her life. She and her husband were owners of Brantley Furniture & Floor Covering, and in 2003, fueled by her vision, initiative, and tireless fundraising, The Refuge Domestic Violence Shelter was constructed. For many years, Mrs. Brantley served as executive director before becoming chairman of the board for The Refuge. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Vidalia and the JOY Sunday School class. She was a founding member of the United Way Power of the Purse, member of the Highlanders Society, and active in planning events with United Way. In 2023, she was humbled and honored to be chosen as Vidalia Woman of the Year. She enjoyed flowers, plants, teaching the Bible, and talking about her Jesus. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren, as they were the joy of her life.

She is survived by her husband of fifty-two years, Wayne T. Brantley of Vidalia; five children, Kelly Stuckless and husband Craig of Vidalia, Tom Brantley and Lisa Olander of Omaha, Nebraska, Shannon Kahn and husband William of Mt. Laurel, New Jersey, Allison Spivey and husband Michael of Ailey, and Helen Newland and husband of Kansas City, Missouri; four brothers, Roland Williams and wife Becky of Rackettown Community, Dewey Williams and wife Betty Dell of Lyons, Mike Williams and wife Jeannie of High Springs, Florida, and Doug Williams and wife Lisa of Lyons; sister-in-law, Judy Googe of Hogansville; eight grandchildren, Jake Stuckless and wife Ally, Noah Stuckless and wife Julie, Olivia Warnock and husband Jackson, Isabella Kahn, Marc Kahn, Will Newland, Ilsa Newland, and Anna Newland; one great-grandson, Brooks Warnock; and numerous nieces and nephews.
