Josie (Bazemore) Toole

Mrs. Josie B. Toole, age 86, of the Johnson Corner Community, died Monday, November 3, 2025, at The Oaks Bethany in Vidalia following an extended illness. She was a native of Wayne County and lived in Odum until moving to Toombs County in 1977. She worked at the former Meadows Memorial Hospital in Vidalia, Oxford Industries in Vidalia, and Lyons Elementary School. She was a member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church in Johnson Corner, and she enjoyed fishing, knitting, crocheting, and embroidering.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Toole in 2013; son, Joe Carter; granddaughter, Chris Kersey; parents, Joseph Bazemore and Ella Ray Pye Bazemore; and four siblings.

She is survived by five children, Wanda G. McGahee of Johnson Corner, William Carter and wife Bonnie of Midway, Thomas Carter and wife Roxann of Springfield, Vicky Legg and husband Louie of Blitchton, and Barney Carter of Lyons; fourteen grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday afternoon from 1:00 until 2:30.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 6th, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Mt. Moriah Church Cemetery with Pastor Buddy Toole officiating.

Pallbearers are Brandon Gillis, Daytona Gillis, Josh Harrison, Austin Carter, Matthew Harrelson, and Jacob Harrison.
