Mr. Joseph Samuel Dickey, III passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at the age of 76 in Dover, Florida.
Joe was born April 18, 1949, in West Palm Beach, FL and was the son of the late Joseph Samuel Dickey and Ethel Scramlin Dickey.
Joe graduated from Lyons High School in Lyons, GA in 1967 and attended Brewton-Parker College and Georgia Southern University. He was a member of the Georgia Army National Guard, as well as a member of the Georgia Jaycees, serving as the State Director in 1972 and Secretary of Jaycees in 1973. He was a member of the Lyons-Toombs Rescue Squad and was nominated for Outstanding Young Men of America in 1971.
Joe was an active church member throughout his life. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Lyons, where he served as a deacon and youth pastor/youth director. He also attended First Baptist Church of Temple Terrace and, most recently, First Free Will Baptist Church in Tampa, Florida. He cheerfully shared the gospel of Jesus Christ with family, friends and new acquaintances alike.
Joe had a long work history that included Vice President of Salem Development Company, under his early mentor Jim Salem. He was a senior sales associate for American Trailers and worked for many years in the transportation industry, serving as regional manager for both Trailways Corporation and Central Florida Bus Company. He also worked as a tour bus driver for many charter tours and for the Grammy-nominated Booth Brothers Gospel Group.
He is survived by his daughter, Julie Dickey Curry (Jesse) of Tampa, FL, stepdaughter Sundi Marino (Shannon) of Savannah, GA, beloved grandchildren Savannah Curry, Max Curry, and Starling Marino; siblings, Sheryl Youngblood of Volcan, Panama, Jerry Dickey (Deborah) of St. Augustine, FL, and Maryann Bates (Larry) of Macon, GA, nephews Ryan, Jacob (Janna), Logan and niece Rachel (Brad); four grand nieces and nephews; and numerous extended family members and cherished friends.
The family wishes to thank all those who were Joe’s dear friends. He counted each of you as his family and thanked God for bringing you into his life.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 pm on Friday, November 21, 2025, and service at 3:00 pm at the Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home in Vidalia, GA. with Elder Ric Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Lyons City Cemetery.
