Mr. John N. “Johnnie” Smith, age 78, of Lyons, died Sunday, July 6, 2025, at The Oaks Bethany in Vidalia following an extended illness. He was a native of Chatham County, moving to Vidalia in 1951, and graduated from Vidalia High School in 1964. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railway after twenty-two years and was owner of the former Smith’s Fried Chicken in Soperton. Johnnie was a member of Fairview Baptist Church in Lyons where he taught the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class. He is preceded in death by his parents, William Elliott Smith, Jr. and Era Mae Tatum Smith; and two siblings, Lynn Smith and Deloris Smith Lewis.
His family includes one daughter, Charline Fisher and husband Brian of Clearwater, Florida, and Carlton Dewayne Smith and his wife Noel of Dallas, Texas; one brother, Skipper Smith and wife Gladys of Lyons; five grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no service.
