Obituary

Mr. John Jerry “JJ” McDaniel, age 73, of Glenwood, died Thursday, August 31, 2023, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after a brief illness.  He was a native of Glenwood, a 1967 graduate of Montgomery County High School, and earned an Associate degree from Brewton-Parker College in Mt. Vernon.  He retired after twenty-seven years as a pipefitter, electrician, and instrument technician from Bayer Crop Science in Woodbine.  He was a Baptist by faith, was a member of Woodbine Masonic Lodge #326 in Camden County, and Sons of the Confederacy.  He enjoyed American History, especially the Civil War.  His passion was music, and could play an array of instruments, including piano, guitar, banjo, and harmonica.  He was a talented artist, was family oriented, and loved his grandchildren.  Preceding him in death were his parents, John Bernice McDaniel and Jessie Marie Selph McDaniel; and one sister, Debra McDaniel Brantley.

His family includes three daughters, Candi McCranie and husband Al, J.J. Fordham and husband Brett, all of Eastman, and Ginger Fiveash and husband Derrick of Brunswick; two sisters, Judy Tipton and husband Keith, and Cara Henry and husband Sam, all of Glenwood; six grandchildren, Caymon McCranie and wife Nikki, Payton McCranie, Kadie Fiveash, Jesse McCranie, Gabriel McCranie, and Gage Fordham; one great-grandchild, Casey McCranie; and special longtime friend, Brenda Harden..    

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.

The funeral service will be Monday morning, September 4th, at 11:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Dr. Keith Tipton and Shane Henry officiating.  Burial will follow at Edge Memorial Gardens in Glenwood.

The family will assemble at the home of Cara and Sam Henry, 34 South Second St., Glenwood.

Honorary pallbearers are the 1967 graduates of Montgomery County High School, Bubba Coleman, Marty Burkett, P.O. Adams, Dr. Kendall Brantley, Henry Buchanan, and Dink Stephens.
