Mr. John William Waldrep, age 87, of Ailey, died Saturday, April 26, 2025, at The Oaks Bethany in Vidalia following a brief illness. He was born on March 19, 1938, in Dexter, Georgia in Laurens County to the late Hugh Douglas “Bot” Waldrep and Gertrude Estes Waldrep. He grew up in Dexter and was a 1957 graduate of Dexter High School. He briefly lived in Milledgeville, in Dublin for several years, moving to Vidalia in 1976 before moving to Montgomery County in 1993. He retired from the grocery business after 42 years, working at Colonial, Big Star, Piggly Wiggly, and Winn Dixie. He is a former member of the First Assembly of God of Dublin and is a member of the First Assembly of Vidalia. He did small engine repair, and he enjoyed tinkering with anything, especially tools. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife 64 years, Glenda Nelms Waldrep; brother, James Harrison Waldrep; and sister, Kaye Waldrep Pope.
His family includes three children, Deborah Setzer of the South Thompson Community, Jeff Waldrep and wife Sherry of Dexter, and Regina Fountain of Lyons; six grandchildren, Tanya Salter and husband Casey of Lyons, Michael Setzer of Vidalia, Stan Waldrep of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Dustin Waldrep and wife Megan of Albany, Kandace Fountain of Vidalia, and Jonathon Fountain of Vidalia; twelve great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
A graveside funeral service will be Wednesday morning, April 30, 2025, at 11:00 at Providence Cemetery, 2478 Hwy 338, Dexter, GA, with Reverend Larry Waldrep and Reverend Kelland Waldrep officiating.
