John Waddell Obituary

Mr. John Robert Waddell, age 81, of Vidalia, Georgia, passed into his heavenly home peacefully, Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Community Hospice House surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Waddell was born in Savannah and grew up in Candler County at the family farm. He graduated Metter High School in 1960, after graduating high school he went to Bolen-Draughon Business School in Savannah. He retired from Coleman Sales after 33 years of dedicated service as an Inventory Manager. He received special recognition from the regional and national supplier for achieving forecasting sales when purchasing products from the distributor. He was a member of Grace Methodist Church of Vidalia and very active in many aspects of service by holding a number of different offices and helping with the Dublin District Church Camp for many years. He mentored for at risk children of Toombs County.  He enjoyed playing softball on church league and was an avid bowler. He traveled all over the country in his free time bowling in national, regional, state, and local tournaments; he was involved in several bowling leagues, holding numerous offices including secretary. Teaching youth was a favorite past time for him, some other favorites include, parachute sky diving, scuba diving, fishing and last of all he was a Georgia Bulldog Fan. He loved and cherished his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren spending much of free time traveling. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Grier and Mary Yarbrough Waddell; and step-son, David Threatte.

His family includes his wife of forty-eight years, Nell Stewart Waddell of Vidalia; one son, Jeffrey Waddell and wife Valarie of Clemmons, North Carolina; two daughters, Carla Martin and husband Don of Columbus and Lisa Peden and husband David of Brandon, Mississippi; one sister, Yvonne Trapnell and husband Billy of Metter; twelve grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; several, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

The celebration of life service will be held 11:00 a.m., October 21st at Grace Methodist Church of Vidalia, 1200 Aimwell Road, Vidalia, GA 30474.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Methodist Church of Vidalia, PO Box 482, Vidalia, Georgia 30475 or Community Hospice Foundation, PO Box 2277, Vidalia, Georgia 30475.
