On Saturday, March 8, 2025, Joan Williams Braddy, loving wife, mother, grandma, and great-grandma, went on to her eternal home with our Lord and Savior.
Joan was born on January 12, 1944, to Collie and Mary Lee Williams. She grew up in Cedar Crossing and was a proud graduate of Toombs Central High School. Joan married Kelly Cecil Braddy on March 27, 1965. She moved to Montgomery County, and together they raised two children, Tracy and Michelle.
Joan worked at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) office in Mt. Vernon, and enjoyed every day. She loved talking with the farmers who came in and made lifelong friends with her clients and coworkers. She spent many years working in the office, until 1996, when she retired to care for her mother. Shortly after, she also took on the role of Grandma, and spent her days caring for her granddaughters.
Joan loved spending time with her granddaughters, taking them to and from Wee Care, playing pretend with them, and supporting them in all of their endeavors, from dance recitals to plays, FFA competitions, and hog shows. She was a dedicated member of Mt. Vernon First Baptist Church and the Fidelis Sunday School class. She enjoyed helping out at church, spending time with the ladies in her Sunday school class, and serving others any way she could. She loved everyone dearly, and made sure they knew it. The way she lived is best described in her own words, taken from her salutatorian address: ““To live a life and live it right, we must uphold our character.”
Joan was preceded in death by her parents Collie and Mary Lee Williams, husband Kelly Cecil Braddy, and siblings Hayward Williams, Mary Mac Barnes, and Percy Williams.
She is survived by her children, Tracy and wife Sheila Braddy, and Michelle and husband Scott Rhodes; grandchildren, Lauren and husband Michael Stanley, and Brittany Braddy; great-granddaughter Brighton Cecile Stanley, and sister-in-law Brenda Braddy, all of Mount Vernon; brothers Billy and wife Nolie Williams and Earl and wife Shirley Williams of Uvalda, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend John Q. Braddy, Jr. and Reverend Karl Hay officiating. The committal service will follow at Adams Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Georgia with Reverend Joe Phillips officiating.
Pallbearers are Chris Carter, Al Manning, Dr. Al Palmer, Pastor Billy Goodwin, Brandon Braddy, Rye Faulk, Jeremy Maybin, and Adon Palacious.
Honorary pallbearers are members of Fidelis Sunday School Class of Mt. Vernon FBC.
