Mr. Jim Paul Gordy, Jr., age 80, of Gray’s Landing, died Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Appling County Hospital in Baxley after a sudden illness.
Jim was born in Lyons, Georgia to the late Jim Paul Gordy, Sr. and Evelyn Mosley Daniel. He was a 1964 graduate of Lyons High School. He worked for Goldkist for many years and was manager at the Bellville Goldkist location. After leaving Goldkist, Jim was part owner of J&J Greenhouses in Claxton, Georgia and Gordy Greenhouses in Alma. Upon retirement, he relocated to Alma where he lived and enjoyed a small farm that he took care of. He returned to his home area and lived at Gray’s Landing. He was a faithful member of Cedar Crossing Baptist Church. Jim enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, and spending time with his wonderful friend, Debbie Jordan.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by five siblings, Martha Nell Gordy Powell, Helen Gordy Kirkland, Faye Gordy Tyson, Ron Gordy, and Billy Gordy.
He is survived by his son, Chris Gordy, Sr. and wife Kristy; two grandchildren, Chris Gordy, Jr. and Nicole Gordy; siblings, Ann Gordy Alchian and husband Allen, Robert Gordy and wife Sue, Michael Gordy and wife Jennie, and Wallace Gordy and wife Leanne; five great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Yulia, Braylen, Chase, and Jaedin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday afternoon, October 23rd, 2025, at 3:00 at Cedar Crossing Baptist Church with Pastor Reece Mincey officiating. Interment will follow at Lyons City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Cedar Crossing Baptist Church on Thursday afternoon from 1:00 until just prior to the service.
