Mr. Jerry W. Hattaway, Jr., age 53, of Vidalia, died Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Memorial Health Meadows Hospital in Vidalia, following an extended illness. He was a lifelong resident of Toombs County until moving to Montgomery County one year ago and was a 1989 graduate of Vidalia High School. He worked as a meat cutter at Piggly Wiggly in Vidalia and Baxley, later with Pepsi, and more recently with David Thompson Collision Repair in Vidalia. He attended Higgston Baptist Church and was a member of Vidalia Masonic Lodge #302. Before the consolidation of the rural fire departments in Toombs County, Jerry served as Normantown Fire Chief and as a first responder. He enjoyed fishing at the Altamaha River, hunting, grilling, cooking, and spending time with and loving on his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by an infant brother, Stacy Lee Hattaway.
His family includes his wife of thirty-four years, Sandy Roberts Hattaway of Vidalia; three children, Stacy Hattaway Wilson and husband Brandon of Twin City, Jonathan Hattaway of Lyons, Lindsey Hattaway McDonald and husband Jonathon of Normantown; his mother, Minnie Hattaway Wilson and husband Tim of Normantown; his father, Jerry W. Hattaway, Sr. of Alston; brother, Gary Hattaway and wife Shirley of Normantown; four grandchildren, Davis Wilson, Avery McDonald, Sterling Wilson, and Cooper Hattaway and his mother, Whitley Powell; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews, including a niece, Lauren Hattaway and a nephew, Luke Hattaway.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday afternoon, November 19th, from 1:00 until just prior to the funeral service at 3:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Owen Waters and Pastor Brandon Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
