Mr. Jerry Richardson, age 61, of Ailey, died on Friday, October 2, 2020, at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta following a brief illness. Mr. Richardson was a native of Montgomery County and lived most of his life in Ailey. He was self-employed in the construction business and spent most of his adult life as a professional award-winning musician. He performed in New York, Nashville, and locally throughout his career. Most recently, he taught music students, including his prodigy Braden “Peanut” Hardeman. He was a life-long member of Ailey Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon as well as in other capacities. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie and Virginia Brooks Richardson, and 1 brother, Robert Richardson.
Survivors include his wife, Leanne Watson Richardson, Ailey; his twin brother, Terry Richardson and his wife Jennifer, Mt. Vernon; 2 stepsons, Matthew Rogers and his wife Priscilla, Macon, and Bradford Rogers and his wife Christy, Forsyth; 3 grandchildren, Lance, Evan, and Emma; 1 sister-in-law, Fran Smith, Ailey; 1 brother-in-law, John Watson and his wife Frances, Buford; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The family will receive friends at the cemetery on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 until just prior to the service.
A graveside memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2020, at 3:00 p.m., in Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery, with Reverend Dr. Curtis Beaird and Reverend Luis Gonzalez officiating.
