Mr. Gerald Lee “Jerry” Gerrits, age 78, of Lyons, died Tuesday, March 3, 2020, in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after an extended illness. He was a native of Boyd, Wisconsin and was a 1959 graduate of Stanley-Boyd High School in Boyd. He served in the U.S. Army from 1959 until 1962 and in the Army Reserve from 1962 until 1965. While living in Wisconsin, he and his late wife were dairy farmers and owners of G&G Cabinets in Lyons. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lyons since 1974. He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-six years, Genelda Moore Gerrits in 2016; parents, Martin Gerrits and Olga Pilgrim Gerrits; a sister, Gail Gerrits; and a brother Kenneth Gerrits;
Mr. Gerrits is survived three children, Terri “Tara” Gerrits, Rhonda Gerrits, both of Lyons, and Jeremy Gerrits and wife Beth of Baldwin, Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Courtney Johnson and husband Blake of Pacific Palisades, California, Gerad Gerrits of Apple Valley, Minnesota, Thonetta Gerrits of St. Paul, Minnesota and Alek Gerrits of Menomonie, Wisconsin; great-grandchildren, Charlee and Walker Johnson both of Pacific Palisades; one sister, Judy Nye and husband Jerry of Stanley, Wisconsin; four brothers, Richard Gerrits, Merlin Gerrits and wife Sylvia, Larry Gerrits and wife Cheryl, all of Stanley, and Alan Gerrits of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 9:00.
The funeral service will be held Friday, March 6th at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Tommy Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in the Boiling Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Treutlen County.
