Mrs. Jean Fowler Tapley, age 82, of Vidalia, died Sunday, June 15, 2025, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia following an extended illness. She was a native of Tattnall County, a 1960 graduate of Reidsville High School, and she moved to Toombs County in 1963. She retired after thirty-five years in the accounting department at Oxford Industries in Vidalia. She attended Liberty Baptist Church in Lyons, and she enjoyed cooking, shopping, reading her Bible, and spending time with her grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack W. Tapley; parents, “Little” John Fowler and Marie Morgan Fowler; and four siblings, William Fowler, Inez Gray, Frances Findley, and Jackie Howell.
Her family includes two daughters, Dawn Horton and husband Andy, and Tracy Tapley, all of Vidalia; two sisters, Johnnie Smith of Vidalia, and Thenila Kight of Lyons; five grandchildren, Wes Hozey and Josh of Weston, West Virginia, Erin Cribbs and husband Trey of Brooklet, Paul Swick and wife Valerie of Burgaw, North Carolina, Christy Swick Brogan and husband Austin of Garner, North Carolina, and Cale Swick of Wilmington; six great-grandchildren, Eli Cribbs, Easton Cribbs, Jack Swick, Beau Swick, Ruka Brogan, and River Brogan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be Thursday, June 26, 2025, at 11:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Michael Plowman officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 10:00 until just prior to the service.
