Mrs. Jean Scott Gashaw, age 92, of Lyons, died Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at Oxley Park Health & Rehab in Lyons after a brief illness. She was born on December 13, 1932, to the late Loran Allen Scott and Bessie Fields Scott in Emanuel County, Kite. She was married on September 16, 1953, and traveled the world with her husband who was in the Air Force. Her favorite place was Tripoli, Libya. After his retirement, she lived in Ft. Gaines, Georgia for many years before moving to Lyons in 2008. She was a homemaker and a member of East Gordon Street Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She cherished her time with family and her pets, Dooly, her Bassett Hound, and Pancake, her cat. She loved to work outside in her flowers, and she did this for as long as she was able.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, David “Hank” Gashaw; three sisters, Louise Blassinggame, Cubalene Scott Briggs, and Ruby Dell Scott Rushing; and two brothers, Sam Scott and Louis Scott.
She is survived by two sisters, MayRoy Scott Powell of Vidalia and Donna Scott Johnson of Alaska; two brothers, Thomas Scott and wife Bonnie of Lyons, and Mickey Scott and wife Tonja of Vidalia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be Friday morning, August 8, 2025, at 11:00 at East Gordon Street Baptist Church with Reverend Mitch Bellflower and Pastor Thomas Rhodes officiating. Interment will follow at Lyons City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church on Friday morning from 10:00 until just prior to the service.
