Mrs. Janis Carol Gunnells Reid, age 82, of Acworth, GA, died Saturday, November 7, 2020, from complications with Covid-19 at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.
Mrs. Reid was born on February 12, 1938, in Honolulu, Hawaii, but grew up in Vidalia. She graduated from Vidalia High School where she was a Homecoming Queen and cheerleader. After obtaining her Associate degree from Middle Georgia College, she worked as a Department of Defense civilian employee at Warner Robins AFB and Memphis, Tennessee. After marriage, Mrs. Reid served as a military wife until she returned to work for the Department of Defense at Fort McPherson, Georgia in 1983. She retired in 1994 to care for her mother and enjoy her grandchildren. Mrs. Reid was preceded in death by her mother, Nyra Gunnells; her father, Horace Gunnells; and her brother Donnie Gunnells.
She is survived by her husband, Col. Tilden Robert Reid, USA, Retired, of Acworth (and Macon) Georgia; her three sons, Tilden R. Reid, II (Rob) of Marietta, Georgia; Matthew C. Reid of Tampa, Florida; and Mark D. Reid of Cumming, Georgia; her six grandchildren Patrick Reid; William Reid, Joseph Reid; Ashley Mae Reid, Brent Reid, and Cara Reid; and seven step-grandchildren, Blake Swartz, Garrett Swartz, C.J. Swartz, Cameron Rose Swartz, Karlee Howard, Madison Howard and Carson Howard.
A graveside service will be held Saturday November 14th, at 2:00 p.m. at Pinecrest Cemetery in Vidalia with Pastor Michael Plowman officiating.
