Mrs. Janet Crosby Harber, age 90, of Lyons, died Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at Memorial Health Meadows Hospital after a brief illness. She was a native of Lyons, living in Atlanta for many years before recently returning to Lyons. She was an honor graduate of Lyons High School and earned a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in Education from Georgia Teachers College in Statesboro. She was a retired educator having taught at Toombs Central School, as well as with the St. Augustine, Florida School System. However, most of her teaching career was spent in the DeKalb County School System. She enjoyed traveling and was a member of Briarcliff United Methodist Church of Decatur and attended the Oaks Baptist Church of Lyons. She is preceded in death by her parents, Eugene Crosby and Beatrice “Bea” Smith Crosby; and a sister, Betty Crosby Kramer and husband Foster.
Her family includes her husband of forty-eight years, Paul J. “Russ” Harber, Sr. of Lyons; two stepchildren, Paul J. “Joe” Harber, Jr. and wife Lisa of Atlanta and Paige Harber Dunham and husband Christopher of Brookhaven; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The graveside funeral service will be Saturday afternoon, September 2nd, at 2:00 at Lyons City Cemetery with Pastor Christian Burton officiating.
