James "Rooster" Harrell Obituary
Mr. James “Rooster” Harrell, age 79, of Vidalia, died Sunday, July 21, 2024, at Memorial Health Meadows Hospital in Vidalia after a sudden illness. He was born in Tarrytown and lived in many places throughout South Georgia before eventually calling Vidalia his home. He was a 1966 graduate of Vidalia High School and served two years in the Army National Guard. Rooster was the owner/operator of Harrell’s Diesel, and later, was shop manager for the City of Vidalia. He was a crop duster as well. He later worked as service manager at Stephen’s Pontiac in Vidalia, was an automotive instructor at Southeastern Technical College, and owner/operator of Rooster’s Auto Sales. He was a member of Blocker’s Chapel Church and Lyons Masonic Lodge #49. Rooster was an avid dirt track racer and raced all over the southeast. He enjoyed fishing at the Altamaha River, watching Westerns and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Otis Harrell and Dessie Blaxton Harrell; and brothers, Vernon Andrew “Peabody” Harrell, William LeRoy “Bill” Harrell and Ottis Clyde “O.C.” Harrell.
His family includes his son, Chad E. Harrell and wife Leslie of Glenwood; four grandchildren, Avery “Baby Girl” Harrell, Brady Harrell, Rett Harrell and Adam Dixon; one brother, David Harrell and Donna Powell of Higgston; and two sisters, Hazel Harrell Williams and Wynoka Harrell Foskey, both of Vidalia.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday morning, July 24th from 10:00 until just prior to the funeral service at 12:00 noon in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Albert White officiating. Burial will follow at McCrimmon Cemetery near Higgston
