Mr. James “Jimmy” Davis, age 74, of Mt. Vernon, died Friday, January 24, 2020, in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, after a brief illness. He was a lifelong resident of Mt. Vernon and was a 1964 graduate of Montgomery County, receiving all the degrees in FFA and Forestry. He was a pipefitter and pipe superintendent for many years working all over the United States and South America. Early in his life, Jimmy was a farmer and continued that passion by gardening and making cane juice and syrup. He was a member of Milliken Masonic Lodge #302 in Cedar Crossing, a former member of the Uvalda Baptist Church and attended the Cedar Crossing Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Marvin Davis and Zenobia Dixon Davis; one sister, Loretta Davis West; and an infant brother, William Davis.
Mr. Davis is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Edna Davis of Mt. Vernon; one daughter, Carol Davis Speir and husband John of Forsyth; three grandchildren, Misty Spainhower and husband Tim of South Bend, Indiana, Charley Speir and Zachary Speir of Forsyth; two great-grandchildren, Carter Spainhower and Braden Spainhower of South Bend; one brother, Leon Davis of Mt. Vernon, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Monday, January 27th, at 11:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Reece Mincey officiating. Burial will follow in the Uvalda City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 4:00 until 7:00.
