James E. "Jim" Brown, Jr.

James E. Brown Jr. (Jim), age 78, of Glenwood, passed away Monday, April 19th 2021 at the Colquitt County hospital after a brief illness.  He was born in Dublin, Georgia on October 25, 1942 to the late Elwin and Edna Brown and graduated Montgomery County High School in 1960.  He received an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy, leaving early to return home and attend Georgia Southern University.  He married his former spouse, Carol Ann Raiford of Vidalia, Ga and they had one son together, James E. Brown III. 

For over 25 years, Mr. Brown built a highly successful floor covering business with stores located in Vidalia and Valdosta, Ga as well as locations in Florida.  He retired from business in 1999, returning to the family farm in Glenwood, Ga to enjoy his favorite hobbies of fishing and the outdoors and spend the remainder of his life with his loving companion of 32 years, Barbara Davidson of Norman Park, Ga. 

Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Jon L. Brown and his wife Bobbie, and his parents James Elwin Brown Sr and Edna Pope Brown.

Mr. Brown is survived by his son, James E. Brown III and wife Magda of Kathleen, Ga and his two grandchildren, James E. Brown IV and his wife Kristy of Edwards Air Force Base, California and Greg Brown of Kathleen, Ga, as well as one brother, Gaylain Brown and his wife Cyndi of Valdosta, Ga and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, April 22nd from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.

The funeral service will be held graveside on Friday, April 23rd at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, Glenwood, Georgia with Pastor BL Horne officiating.

His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone he interacted with as well as those he touched but never met.
