James Wilson Kenney

Mr. James Wilson Kenney, age 82, of Athens, died Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at Treutlen County Health and Rehabilitation after a brief illness. He was a native of Athens, graduating from Athens High School and later from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management. Mr. Kenney was employed with Oxford Industries serving as Plant Manager in Monroe, Monticello, and Bowman, Georgia. Upon his retirement from Oxford, he owned and operated Golf USA and Archery Traditions in Athens. He was a member of the Jaycees and Kiwanis, serving as president and other offices in Monroe, Monticello and Elberton, Georgia. Mr. Kenney served as a Board of Director for Piedmont Academy in Monticello, Georgia. He was an active member of Alps Road Presbyterian Church and in his spare time he was an avid deer, turkey, and duck hunter, and he especially enjoyed bow hunting. He loved UGA sports, especially football, playing golf and spending time with his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife of fifty-seven years, Cynthia Price Kenney; parents, Wilson Kenney and Lucy Kate Dillard Kenney; and a sister, Jane Jones.

His family includes two sons, Mike Kenney and wife Dawn of Port Charlotte, Florida and Chad Kenney and wife Jean of Kibbee; two sisters, Martha Kate Yount of Lawrenceville, and his twin sister, Nancy Webb and husband Johnny of Watkinsville; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 4th at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church with Pastor Paul Wilkes officiating.

The family will receive friends after the service on Saturday.

The family will gather at the home of Chad and Jean Kenney, 715 Hamilton Road, Vidalia, Georgia 30474.
