Mr. James Edward Coulter, Sr., age 78, of the Normantown Community, died Sunday, April 17, 2022, at his home following an extended illness. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida, and grew up there and Pensacola, Florida. He was a 1975 graduate with honors at Georgia Southern College in Statesboro, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. He began his career at Georgia State Prison in Reidsville, and later transferred to Coastal State Prison in Garden City where he retired as Senior Correctional Counselor, after a combined thirty-four years of service. He moved to Vidalia in 2004, was a US Navy veteran, a member of the American Legion, and member of the Lyons Free Will Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and studying God's Word. Preceding him in death was his parents, Dale Melville Coulter and Grace Voncile Cumbie Coulter; stepfather, Kelly Barricella; two siblings, Lloyd G. Coulter and Patricia E. Coulter; and lifetime special best friend, Zedrie “Zed” Cecil Godwin, also known as Jimmy.
His family includes his wife, Judy S. Coulter of Normantown; five children, Dale M. Coulter and wife Susan of Yulee, Florida, James “Jimmy” E. Coulter, Jr., Angela Lynn Davis and husband Ryan, all of Springfield, Melody Lynn Robinson and husband Robbie of Normantown, and Angie G. Pittman and Jeff Coleman of Wrightsville; one brother, Dale E. Coulter; two sisters, Christina M. Wilson and husband Fred, and Shirley A. Hannah and husband David; ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be Sunday, April 24th, at 2:00 p.m. at Lyons Free Will Baptist Church with Pastor Rick Wilson officiating.
