Jackie West

Mrs. Jackie West, age 57, of Mt. Vernon, died Monday, February 24, 2025, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia following a brief illness.  She was a native of Hillsboro County, Florida, growing up in Tampa, and living in Charleston, West Virginia for a few years before moving to Mt. Vernon in 1985.  She was a graduate of Southeastern Technical College in Vidalia, earning a degree in Computer Technology.  She worked with the Solid Waste Department in Montgomery County, and later she worked with the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners.  She attended Mt. Vernon Methodist Church, and she enjoyed shopping and sitting on her back porch.  She is preceded in by death her parents, David Truman Hill, Sr. and Ruth Marie Harper Hill; and three brothers, David “Pootie” Hill, Jr., Charles Hill, and George C. “Junior” Hill.

Her family includes her husband, Tim Wayne West of Mt. Vernon; four children, Anita Coots, of Mt. Vernon, Melissa Nelms and husband Joseph, and Russell West, all of Glenwood, and Marie O’Connor and husband Chad of Jesup; two sisters, Carolyn Trani and husband Mario of Statesboro, and Renee Weeks and husband Kenny, all of Mt. Vernon; ten grandchildren, Destiny Stephens and husband Kristian, Passion Cagle, Madison Lomaneck, Joe Nelms, Westen Nelms and wife Brittany, Courtney Lawson and husband Marshall, Alani West, Jaron West, Zach Prickett, and Donna “DJ” O’Connor; six great-grandchildren, a great-granddaughter to be born in July, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday morning, from 9:30 until 10:30.

A graveside funeral service will be Wednesday morning, February 26, 2025, at 11:00 at Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Arnie Raj officiating.
